Balsa Wood Sculptures
Focused Space The two pieces are focused on the element of space and the principle of focal point. The piece that resembles space was crafted using several pieces of wood all sanded down to a triangular shape and held together using straight pins and wood glue. The wood glue gives a very smooth texture to the wood on the parts it covers. The space was created by connecting the triangular shapes to make an irregular open sided pyramid. The space was then enclosed by making a netting using string formed from rolled up masking tape. Making this netting closes off the opening and creates a unique space of its own disconnected from where its placed, yet still visible to viewers. The piece that reflects focal point using a form that looks like droplets as the center piece of the sculpture.
