Touch Reading Response
Touch: Tattoos
From the reading, there was one section in the chapter that caught my attention the most, and that was the one on tattoos. The chapter talks about what it means when someone gets a tattoo and what the cost of them is, and most people would probably agree with the statement the books says that most people get tattoos just to seem unique among the masses, to stand out so they don't blend in and that they are shortening their life with this optional skin deformity just to not blend in. I did not resonate with this, what I feel is more true for a lot of people is the part where the book says its a way to show our secret desires. I feel as though this is closer to the truth for a lot of people because it is not something to take lightly. it is something you have to live with as it is permanent. I feel as though people use tattoos as almost as a visible diary for themselves, to write down and show their wishes, hopes, dreams, fears and have a constant reminder of them, because they are so much a part of us that they are ingrained into our very beings. Thats why I see it as a necessary risk sometimes, because while it may affect our health, sometimes we just need a reminder of who we are and what we want to be.
